Is it mandatory to service your fire extinguishers?
As per SCDF code of practice, it is an offence against the fire safety act not to maintain your fire protection equipment. This includes fire extinguishers which must be serviced and certified by a PSB approved workshop once a year. All extinguishers that have been serviced must come with a PSB control tag.
What is the shelf life of fire extinguishers?
Fire extinguishers usually have a shelf life of 5 years. As per SCDF requirements, your dry powder extinguishers will have to go through hydrostatic testing every 5 years. Since this is a labour intensive and time-consuming process with an estimated failure rate of 20%, we highly recommend clients to change to new dry powder extinguishers instead which is much cheaper.
Why are dry powder extinguishers AB instead of ABC?
With effect 2013, all manufacturers in Singapore cannot affix the C Class labels unless it has been tested to C Class fires. Since there are no facilities to test C Class fires in Singapore, manufacturers will thus display only AB class labels for new extinguisher

Can I use a 1kg dry powder AB fire extinguisher for my office?
As the minimum fire rating accepted for commercial usage is 8A and most 1kg extinguishers are tested to 5A fire rating, 1kg AB extinguishers do not comply in commercial settings. The minimum extinguisher sizing will be 2kg AB fire extinguisher.
What type of extinguishers should I use for my server room?
We do not recommend installing dry powder extinguisher in server rooms as the powder might damage the sensitive server equipment. A correct extinguisher in such a situation would be a 2kg CO2 fire extinguisher of a 4kg clean agent FE36 extinguisher. As the fire fighting agent is in gas form, there will be no messy discharge or additional clean up cost related to dry powder extinguishers.
What should I do if my house catches fire?
